The Member of Parliament for Asokwa and former Kumasi mayor, Maxwell Kofi Jumah has lampooned President Mills' State of the Nation address, last Thursday, saying what the president did was to express his state of mind. According to Jumah, President Mills in his 3rd State of the Nation address sought to attack New Patriotic Party presidential candidate for 2012, Nana Akufo-Addo for his “all die be die” comment and cast innuendos for propaganda purposes. Kofi Jumah's criticisms come in the wake of the Minority in Parliament describing Presidents Mills' address to the nation as highly divisive. On Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday, the Asokwa MP saw it strange that President Mills found it more important to put the security agencies on “red alert” to arrest war mongers who attempted to disturb the peace and stability of the country instead of outlining his vision and plans for the future. He added that if there were any war mongers in the country, it should be President Mills and the ruling National Democratic Congress(NDC) government. The NPP MP said he as a ranking member for the Select Committee on Local Government in Parliament expected President Mills to be more elaborate on the District Assemblies which are the major development institutions in the country, decentralisation of the GETfund, distribution of free school uniforms for basic schools and many others which were all part of his (Mills) promise to Ghanaians at elections. Kofi Jumah noted that the essence of the State of the Nation address was for President Mills to explain to the nation what he had been able to do out of his promises and how he intended to execute the rest to achieve his "Better Ghana Agenda". The MP however commended Nana Akufo-Addo for his response to President Mills’ on his ‘all-die-be-die’ comments after the flag-bearer held a press conference in Ho on Monday calling on the president not to look beyond his party for unruly youth who needed to be reined in. Meanwhile lawyer Kakra Essamuah of the NDC and a panelist on the programme has said President Mills in his address covered all sectors of the economy, explaining that the President's speech touched on his government's achievements on housing, education, economy and human rights, among others. On Nana Akufo-Addo’s “all die be die” comments, Kakra Essamuah urged Nana Addo to emulate President Mills' example of apologising to his predecessor J.A. Kufuor and Chief Justice Georgina Wood when his attention was drawn to the error of his failure to acknowledge them in parliament.
