A Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG) Kwesi Jonah has attributed the low productivity level in the public service to what he describes as tribal recruitment by leaders of the nation. Mr. Jonah said the nation can never develop at the rate expected unless politicians stop the manipulation of the system in recruiting their favorites based on tribal sentiments and affiliations. Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem on Wednesday, Mr. Jonah added that it is dangerous for the nation to ignore competence and skills and rather focus on tribal links to recruit people into the civil service which is the engine of national development. Mr. Kwesi Jonah said it was shocking to discover at some instances where family members are recruited into the Public Service without going through the required procedure. He said the nepotism in the Public Service has led to increased indiscipline in the service which has seriously undermined development. Story by Francis Henaku/Adom News/Ghana
