The Quality Control Division of the Ghana Cocoa Board has said 81 bags of cocoa recently intercepted by the Cocoa Anti-Smuggling Unit in the Jomoro District of the Western Region are unwholesome.
Deputy Superintendent of Police John Ferguson Dzeneku, Jomoro District Police Commander, told the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday that test carried out by the Quality Control Division proved that the cocoa beans were adulterated.
He said further investigation by the Police revealed that the cocoa beans were smuggled into the country from Cote d'Ivoire.
Mr Dzeneku said the beans had been handed over to the Ghana Cocoa Marketing Board for further action.
A cargo truck carrying cocoa beans suspected to have been smuggled from Cote d'Ivoire was intercepted on February 16 on the Tikobo/Elenea road.
