Three illegal chainsaw operators died on the spot on Thursday at Akyem Oda when their vehicle loaded with 154 beams was involved in an accident.
The bodies of the deceased had been deposited at the Akyem Oda Government Hospital Mortuary.
Eleven other people in the KIA track including the driver sustained serious injuries and have been admitted to the hospital.
An eyewitness told the GNA that they were illegal lumber operators who had cut the trees in someone's concession at a forest reserve at Akyem Apoli and were running away from the concessionaire's guards.
He said the driver, on reaching Akyem Oda, decided to pass through the bungalow area at top speed and in an attempt to negotiate a curve the vehicle overturned, trapping the illegal operators under the beams.Source: GNA
