The former Central Regional Minister, Nana Ato Arthur, has filed his nomination to contest the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) parliamentary seat on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
As at the close of nomination on Sunday March 6, he was the only person who had filed to contest the seat, Nana Appiah Korang, KEEA NPP constituency chairman, told the GNA.
Nana Arthur, 49, is contesting for the second time and has pledged to link the constituency up with international NGOs, Sister Cities and other development partners to revive the "Elmina 2015 Strategy" which he spearheaded when he was the District Chief Executive for KEEA.
The Strategy, which saw a number of historic and ancient buildings and places in Elmina rehabilitated, was geared towards beautifying the town to enhance tourism and created jobs in the area.
Speaking to the GNA in a telephone interview from Germany where he is reading his PHD, Nana Arthur said he would also focus on improving the lot of the youth and the aged as well as grant scholarships to needy but brilliant students in the constituency.
He said he would continue to offer support to the aged by registering them with the National Health Insurance scheme (NHIS) while jobs will be created for the youth.
Alhaji Mohammed Mustapha, who presented the papers on behalf of Nana Arthur to the Party's office at Elmina, reminded the people of the role Nana Arthur played in the development of the area when he was the District Chief Executive and called on all to support him to enable him win the seat.Source: GNA
