Mr. Alex Kofi Kyeremeh, Techiman Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has asked Ghanaians not to allow past failures to discourage them from contributing to national development. He called on the people to support Government to enable it accelerate the country's development to give meaning to President John Evans Atta Mills' declaration of 2011 as action year. Mr. Kyeremeh made the call whilst addressing pupils and students of 34 private basic schools and six Senior High Schools at a parade to mark Ghana's 54th Independence Anniversary celebration in Techiman last Sunday. The celebration was under the theme: "Discipline and hard work - essential prerequisite for a better Ghana". Mr. Kyeremeh called on Ghanaians to contribute meaningfully to the development of education, agriculture and sanitation. He disclosed that for the past 26 months the municipal assembly had constructed 20 basic school blocks whilst 18 others have reached various stages of construction. The MCE said projects to construct additional school blocks for Krobo SDA, Asueyi Methodist, Aworowa Junior High Schools and a 12-unit block for Ahmadiyya Primary School were on tender. He appealed to teachers in public schools, who boycotted the independence anniversary celebration, to consider the plight of school children and return to the classroom. Miss Adwoa Nyama Pokuaa, a 16-year-old girl, who completed Good Shepherd Educational Institute and now a student of Wesley Girls Senior High School in Kumasi, received GHC 1,000 for emerging first in the Brong-Ahafo Science Technology and Mathematics Education competition. Miss Pokuaa is to represent the region in the national competition. Mr. Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, Nkoranza District Chief Executive (DCE), said Government would not disappoint teachers in their quest for better working conditions of service in view of their invaluable role in national development. He appealed to teachers to rescind their decision to boycott classes as the Government had set-up a technical committee to look into and address the anomalies in their migration to the Single Spine Salary Structure. The DCE was addressing a parade of school children to mark Ghana's 54th Independence Anniversary Celebration at Nkoranza. Mr. Agyekum called on Ghanaians to be disciplined and contribute to the attainment of the "Better Ghana Agenda". He expressed concern about drug abuse, alcoholism and premarital sex the youth and appealed to traditional authorities and parents to join school management committees to enact bye-laws to ban children from attending video shows, concerts, dance and funerals, which lured them to engage in social vices. Mr. Kwadwo Agyei-Dwomor, Nkoranza North District Chief Executive (DCE), has appealed to the youth to learn from the shining example of Ghana's leaders such as Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the country's first President, to facilitate national development. He expressed concern that even though Ghana was an independent country, it was still faced with problems such as diseases, poverty and illiteracy and called on Ghanaians to work hard to overcome such challenges. The DCE was speaking at a parade to mark Ghana's 54th Independence Anniversary celebration in at Busunya, last Sunday.He gave the assurance that Government would do what it could to evacuate Ghanaians, who were stranded in Libya, home. Mr. Agyei-Dwomor said the Government was also working hard to create jobs for the youth. He appealed to newly elected assembly members in the district to unite and initiate programmes for the develop of the people.
