The Dangme West District Chief Executive, Emmanuel Anyimi Odoi Lartey, has advised school children in the district to be disciplined as they pursue education. The present academic record of the district, he noted, was nothing to write home about and therefore, needs a change in attitudes towards reversing the trend. Mr. Lartey expressed these sentiments at the 54th Independence Anniversary parade of school children and their teachers at Dodowa. He said as future leaders, the clarion call was for them to eschew anti-social activities and devote themselves to their studies towards arresting the falling standards of education in the district. "Success can only be achieved when you dedicate yourselves to a course of self-discipline, to accelerate the process of development in the area," he added. Mr. Lartey said the assembly, in collaboration with the district education directorate, is working towards improving this year's Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results respectively. He stated that the assembly would always fund the district's participation in the science, technology and mathematics education clinics, to encourage the girl-child, the focus of the programme, to study the subjects. He revealed that a number of classroom blocks had been constructed in all the four traditional areas, including those which are deprived, adding that "more infrastructures would soon be added to the ones at the Prampram Senior High School, to enable it increase its intake".
