Justice Seyram Tsatsu Yao of the Ashaiman Circuit Court today remanded Bright Dotu Rouseau a self-styled travel and tour agent into police custody to reappear on the 11th of March, 2011 for defrauding by false pretense contrary to section 131 of Act 29/60.
Chief Inspector Prosper Yao Aheto, police prosecutor informed the court that the complainant Robert Alebina was a Civil Servant with the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, Accra, while the accused a self-styled travel and tour agent.
According to him in the year 2008, the accused person introduced himself to the complainant as a travel and tour agent working with “Obsis Travel and Tour Limited” in Accra and would be able to secure travelling documents such as visa, working permit and plane ticket for the complainant to travel to Canada within the shortest possible time.
Prosecution stated that the complainant became convinced because he had been looking for an opportunity to travel to the United States of America (USA).
The accused, therefore, demanded and collected from the complainant an amount of five thousand, two hundred and seventy Ghana Cedis (GHC 5,270.00)
Chief Inspector Aheto said soon after collecting the money, the accused went into hiding, and after fruitless effort by the complainant to trace him failed, he formally lodged a complaint with the Ashaiman Divisional Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on July 7, 2010 and on July 10, 2010 the accused was arrested in Ashaiman.
He was remanded into police custody to reappear on Friday 11th March, 2011.
