The Deputy Upper West Regional Minister, Kale Caesar has admonished communities in the region where there are dams to put them in to productive use as done elsewhere especially neighbouring Burkina Faso.
He said the practice where people yearn for dams to be constructed for them and when it is done by government they are abandoned should stop.
Mr. Caesar made the statement at the Paragbelle festival at Tumu in the Sisaala East District in response to an appeal by chief of Tumu for government to build dams for the area.
He assured the Tumu Kuoru’s request will granted but maintained that when built, the dams must be used to generate economic activities for the benefit of the people.
The minister also promised that plans were far advanced the construction of Bolga-Tumu and Tuma-Wa roads.
The Paragbelle festival is mean to bring the people of the Sissala East together to brainstorm ways of developing the area.
According to correspondent Rafiq Salam, the festival is also used to thank the gods for a bumper harvest.
