The Eastern Regional Minister, Dr Kwasi Akyem Apea-Kubi, has appealed to the various tender boards in the region to offer contracts only to qualified contractors with the requisite resources to complete projects on time.
He said unqualified companies end up delaying the execution of projects resulting in cost hike of projects.
Dr Apea-Kubi was speaking at a meeting with heads of departments in the Eastern Region on Friday at the Regional Co-ordinating Council to seek their support in the implementation of the vision of the government in the region.
He assured the peace of the region would not be compromised in any way, stressing that every resident has the right to peace and prosperity.
Dr Apea-Kubi urged the regional heads to be guided by the oath of secrecy that they have sworn and urged them to know when and where to say what.
He said the STX housing scheme would cater for residential accommodation for public servants in the regions and therefore urged public servants to take advantage of it when the project starts.
Earlier, the Regional Co-ordinating Director, Mr Samuel Bawa said the RCC is faced with serious office and residential accommodation problems.
He said the sale of government buildings to occupants had created a lot of stress in the provision of residential accommodation to officers posted to the region to work.
Mr Bawa said currently, he is combining some offices to create office space for new departments in the region.
Eastern Regional Director of Community Development, Mr Kwasi Poku Adjei appealed to the Regional Minister to help save the Technical School of the Department of Community Development at Kyebi from illegal gold miners who had taken over the school compound.
The Regional Director of the Centre for National Culture (CNC), Mr Kingsley Obeng, also appealed to Dr Apea-Kubi to help transfer the management of the Jubilee Park at Koforidua – whichis located on the landed property of the centre to the CNC - for effective management.
He noted that when the Centre made the request earlier, it was informed that the project had not been completed and that the contractor was yet to hand over to the RCC.
