Cellulite is among the biggest body concerns for women. One day you have smooth, taut thighs and then, out of nowhere, cellulite rears its ugly head.
Fear not: Tons of products aim to tone skin and give it a tighter, smoother appearance, and we've rounded up a few here.
What is cellulite?
Cellulite is the result of uneven fatty tissue beneath the skin's surface and causes the appearance of dimpled skin on the thighs, buttocks, hips and abdomen.
To find out if you have cellulite, you can do a simple pinch test: Gently pinch the skin around your upper thigh does your skin dimple and appear lumpy below the surface? That's cellulite.
And if you have it, you're not alone. Nearly 90 percent of women and girls develop cellulite, usually starting around age 14 and increasing slowly with age.
What causes cellulite?
While cellulite is mainly hereditary, other factors that could contribute to the appearance of cellulite include:
• Poor diet
• Tension
• Stress
• Smoking
• Lack of exercise
• Insufficient water intake
Cellulite is not a serious medical condition, however many women can become self-conscious about the effected areas when wearing shorts, skirts or swim suits.
How to get rid of cellulite
There is unfortunately no cure for cellulite, however many of these products below are designed to reduce the appearance of unsightly cellulite and help skin develop a tighter, smoother appearance.
While no tool can get rid of pesky cellulite permanently, some boost circulation by massaging skin, thereby minimizing the appearance of cellulite.
Try Bliss fatgirlslimulator ($22 at Blissworld.com) daily in the shower to gently massage thighs, backs of arms, backside and stomach.
Sephora's Cellulite Massager ($16 at Sephora) also helps reduce the appearance of cellulite with in-shower massage.
A multitasking moisturizer that also firms and tones the skin can minimize the appearance of spongy skin.
One good option is Perricone MD Cold Pasma Body ($95 at PerriconeMD.com), which is designed to tone, firm and hydrate the skin all at once.
It plumps and smoothes skin with sodium hyaluronate and reduces cellulite with a high concentration of caffeine.
Also try Murad Vitamin C Body Firming Cream ($43 at Sephora), which not only hydrates skin but also works to increase body firmness and tone over time.
Here are a couple products that focus all their attention on firming and toning skin.
Try Shiseido Body Creator Aromatic Sculpting Concentrate Anti-Cellulite ($65 at Shiseido.com), which helps reduce visible cellulite with continued use and gives skin a smoother appearance.
Also try Bliss Fat Girl Slim ($29 at Blissworld.com), a more affordable option that uses caffeine as its main cellulite-fighting ingredient. Skin looks firmer, smoother and less dimpled.
