The Dormaa Circuit Court, presided over by Mr Alexander Osei Tutu, has jailed two robbers, Alex Kwabena and Ibrahim Hamidu, for 10 and seven years respectively for stealing.
Both convicts pleaded innocent, when they appeared before the court earlier, but were convicted and jailed after the prosecution had established their guilt beyond reasonable doubt.
The prosecutor, Inspector Charles Agovi, earlier told the court that, Ibrahim Hamidu sneaked into the bedroom of the complainant, a student and a mobile phone repairer, at Dormaa Ahenkro, on February 4, 2011 and stole eight cell phones, valued at GH¢ 375.
Prosecution said while Hamidu tried to remove one of the phones from its charger, he ended up waking up the repairer from his sleep.
Inspector Agovi said when the convict realized that he had been spotted; he took to his heels, but was arrested by a group of neighbours around 0400 hours and handed over to the police.
Inspector Agovi said apart from the eight mobile phones, the police also found on the convict, a pair of pliers, two screw drivers, a pair of scissors and a locally manufactured mouse trap.
For his part, Alex Kwabena and an accomplice identified only as Francois, moved from Nkrankwanta to Aboabo no. 2, near Dormaa Ahenkro, on 31st January, 2011 stole a Haojin 125 motorcycle with Registration No. BA 247 X, worth GH¢ 800.000, while the owner Nana Ansu Bediako was asleep.
The Prosecution told the court that, the thieves attempted to enter La Cote d'Ivoire with the motorbike via Nkrankwanta, but were intercepted by Customs officials, following a tip-off.
He said in the event, Francois escaped but Alex was over-powered by the Customs staff and handed over to the Nkrankwanta police.Source: GNA
