The Electricity Company of Ghana says it may have to forcefully install pre-paid meters in Ministries, Departments and Agencies that are unwilling to cooperate in an ongoing exercise to fit the device in all public buildings. The policy which was first announced by the Vice President is aimed at reducing costs and the waste of electricity at public institutions. Several of the public institutions are said to be resisting the implementation of the directive for fear that their supply will be cut off under the new arrangement. But the ECG’s Director of Customer Service, Smart Yeboah tells Joy Business they would have to deal with the resistance. “There is a limit to being customer friendly,” he said. He however tells Joy Business there will be some exemptions such as the Ministry of Finance, 37 Military Hospital and Water Works. Source: Joy Business/Ghana
