The Upper West Regional Police command is on the hunt for three suspects who broke jail Wednesday morning.
The suspects were among five others locked up in Wa Police cell over minor offences.
They were alleged to have forced open the padlock to the door before bolting.
But for the vigilance of a female police constable, many of the inmates would have bolted, police confirm.
The Upper West Police Public Relations Officer Inspector Adu Amakwaah told Joy News’ Upper West correspondent Rafik Salam the female constable quickly resorted to rifle to hold the other inmates at bay.
He said the police have instituted investigations into the matter to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the jail break.
He has also appealed to the general public to assist in the re-arrest of the jail breakers.
