A Circuit Court in Cape Coast presided over by Judge Florence Otu, on Friday sentenced a 20-year old farmer Nana Mpetu to 10 years imprisonment in hard labour for defiling a 13-year Junior High School student.
The accused was convicted on his own plea of guilt.
Prosecuting, Inspector Agbezuhlor narrating the facts said, on Saturday March 19, 2011, at about 0730 hours, the victim after dumping refuse at the outskirts of Dabri Eguafo near Elmina decided to attend to nature's call at a nearby bush.
Inspector Agbezuhlor said suddenly the accused, Nana Mpetu, grabbed and dragged the victim forcibly into a nearby bush, placed her on the ground and had sexual intercourse with her.
He said luck, however, eluded the accused, when a witness in the case saw the accused in the act and upon confrontation the accused took to his heels.
The victim on her return home narrated her ordeal to her grandmother, Maame Ama Esuon the complainant, who later reported the case to the police and was issued with a police medical report form to send the victim to a medical facility.
The accused was later arrested and during interrogation admitted to the offense stating that it was the 13-year old victim, who stripped naked and asked him to have sexual intercourse with her.
