A Kumasi Circuit Court has slapped two thieves with a two year jail term for stealing car doors and an auto starter.
Seth Dzi Nbunu, a 24-year- old carpenter was gaoled for one-and-a-half years while Osei Kwadwo, 33, a car washer would serve six months. They all pleaded guilty.
Police Chief Inspector Archibald Kwesi Fandoh told the Court presided over by Mr Justice Emmanuel Amoh-Yartey that Akwasi Appiah, the complainant, an auto mechanic has a workshop close to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly Sub-Metro at Oforikrom while Nbunu lives at Anloga a suburb in Kumasi.
The complainant noticed that thieves were stealing parts of a customer's vehicle at his workshop.
At about 0330 hours on March 24, luck run out on Nbunu when he was spotted by one of the complainant's apprentices making away with a quantity of unserviceable car doors worth GH¢100.00, from the workshop he had broken into.
The alarm was raised and he was arrested and handed over to the Oforikrom Police.
In Osei's case, about 1500 hours on March 17, one Kwaku Amoako sent his saloon car to (Osei's) washing bay to be washed.
The complainant handed over the ignition key to Osei and left the washing bay.
At about 2000 hours, Amoako returned to take his car but found out that a car starter, kept at the boot worth GH¢ 70.00 was missing.
Mr Amoako approached Osei, who confessed taking it with the excuse that he thought it was of no use to the complainant and therefore sold it to a scrap dealer at GH¢4.00.
The complainant, who was not satisfied with the explanation handed Osei over to the police.
