A 19-year-old labourer, Ebenezer Baah, on Tuesday broke down in tears after a Circuit Court in Accra sentenced him to eight years imprisonment for abducting and defiling a 14-year-old girl. Baah is said to have abducted the victim for several days and defiled her during the period. He was therefore sentenced to three years for abduction and eight years for defilement. Baah pleaded guilty to the charges and convicted on his own plea to run concurrently. Before passing sentence, Baah pleaded with the court to forgive him and deal leniently with him amidst tears. The presiding judge, Mrs Georgina Mensah-Datsa told him: "Next time if you see a child, boy or girl, just ask about her birth certificate before you have sex with that person. Even if you see a girl who has opened her legs and she invites you to have sex with her for payment you should never do it." When the trial judge asked whether he used condoms, Baah replied in the negative. The prosecutor, Police Inspector I.A. A. Ahor said the complainant was an aluminum fabricator who lives with her daughter (victim), a student at Dome an Accra suburb. Inspector Ahor said on March 11, this year at about 1130 hours the convict who lived at Dome abducted the victim and kept her in his room and defiled her. The victim's father searched for her but could not find her and therefore lodged a complaint with the Tesano Police. On March 13, the victim returned home and was sent to the Tesano Police Station.
