There is no water flowing in Accra, Tema and its environs because pumping machines at Weija and Kpong have been rendered temporarily dysfunctional.
The Ghana Water Company Ltd. is blaming the Electricity Company of Ghana for disrupting its operations with its intermittent and unannounced power outages.
Stanley Martey, Communications Manager of the Aqua Vitens Rand, operators of the Ghana Water Company told Joy News every minute of power outage is six hours of water production lost.
According to him, in the last seven weeks the ECG has gone off every Thursday with several unannounced outages which has affected water production.
He said they have information from the ECG that the intermittent outages will persist for the next four weeks, a situation which could prove dire for residents.
Asked why his outfit is not using generators to run its operations in the face of these outages, he said “it is not economically prudent to use generators in powering the sort of equipments we have.”
