Arsenal have been drawn to face Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich again in the last-16 of the Champions League.
Group winners Arsenal were hopeful of a favourable second-round opponent in Friday’s draw in Nyon, but have been paired with German giants Bayern for the third time in the last four seasons.
Arsene Wenger’s side have faced Bayern three times in the knockout stages of the Champions League during their long-serving manager's tenure, being knocked out on all three occasions, while the Gunners have been eliminated at the last-16 stage of the Champions League in each of the last six seasons.
“We thought it might happen,” David Miles, Arsenal’s club secretary, said after the draw. “The fans will think once again we’ve got the rough end of the draw, but at some stage the tide is going to turn. We’re in a good rich vein of form, we’re second in the Premier League. We’re delighted to be playing the second leg at home, so we’re going to be upbeat and positive.”
Champions League first-timers Leicester City have been handed an enjoyable away trip and winnable fixture against three-time Europa League winners Sevilla, while Manchester City face Tottenham's conquerors Monaco.
In the other highlight of the draw, Paris Saint-Germain were drawn against Barcelona in a heavyweight tie.
Champions League last-16 draw
Real Madrid will be pleased with their draw against Napoli, while Bayer Leverkusen against Atletico Madrid is a fascinating tactical match-up between two of the continent's more sophisticated teams.
In the two remaining fixtures in the last-16, Benfica play Borussia Dortmund and Porto take on Juventus.
