The police administration says it has deployed more of its men to guard public places as the post-election violence in certain parts of the country continues.
The Service is appalled at the destruction of these public properties and wants to do everything possible to protect them.
Director of Public Affairs of the Police Service, Superintendent Cephas Arthur told Joy News’ Seth Kwame Boateng in an interview “it is interesting that the very facilities that we have been craving for and our leaders provide us with, when we get the opportunity we try to destroy them.
“We have personnel of the police deployed all over and they are patrolling and providing protection for all these facilities,” he added.
The aftermath of the announcement of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo as president elect has been characterized by clashes and destruction of public properties.
As of Monday morning, the toll booth at the Ashaiman end of the Accra, Tema Motorway was allegedly raided by members of the vigilante group linked to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Also, two incidents in Ekumfi and Upper Denkyira have led to the death of one person and several others injured after clashes in the area between supporters of the NDC and the NPP.
But the police say they will have none of that. Sup. Arthur said they will leave no stone unturned and anyone found culpable will be duly punished.
He however noted that their presence does not mean total absence of crime, insisting, “security means that cutting down on crime drastically and where crimes occur, action is taken to bring perpetrators to book.”
He noted that according to their intelligence, most of the incidents have supporters of the NPP masterminding the violence but “it is a two-way affair.”
He said the Service will hold a meeting and discuss the occurrences and further actions will be taken where necessary.
He urged members of the public who feel threatened to report to the police for personal protection.
