A circuit court in Takoradi on Thursday sentenced Emmanuel Dankwah Opoku to five years imprisonment, for causing harm to Madam Adwoa Afrah, his 71-year-old aunt.
He pleaded guilty.
Police Sergeant Seth Ahelegbe told the court presided by Mr. Charles Bamford Nimako that the convict, who resided at Ahenkrofi near Takoradi smoke Indian hemp.
He said on March 30, 2010, the convict went to his aunt's house, at Nkroful and threatened to kill her if she fails to give him money.
Sgt Ahelegbe said Madam Afrah did not have money on her so she borrowed GH¢ 15 from a neighbour and gave it to the convict.
The prosecution said at about 1130 hours on October 22, 2010, the convict went to Madam Afrah's house again and demanded money from her when she was cooking in the kitchen.
Sgt Ahelegbe said while Madam Afrah was looking for money for Opoku, he suddenly hit her head with a stone.
The prosecution said Madam Afrah scream for help and become unconscious but she was rescued by a neighbour, who took her to Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital.
The convict went into hiding but he was later apprehended by the Police.Source: GNA
