Forty-five-year old Millicent Marfo met her untimely death at Akim-Swedru when she was knocked down by a reversing car.
Police Superintendent James Sarfo Peprah, the Eastern Regional Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service, told Ghana News Agency in Koforidua that the incident occurred in the early hours of March 30.
Narrating the story, he said at about 0600 hours on that day, Gregory Kankam, Seth Akesse Gyimah and Kwakwa Prince, who are professional teachers, among other passengers, aboard a Metro Mass Transit bus, created commotion which resulted in insults. The bus was travelling towards Asin Fosu.
He said the conductor of the bus, with registration number AS 2461 X, Vincent Kwadwo, 31, and some passengers tried unsuccessfully to bring the situation under control.
Superintendent Peprah said on reaching Ofosu Krum Junction, the driver decided to report the case to the Police at Akim-Swedru.
He said while reversing at the junction, some of the passengers, including Madam Marfo allegedly alighted.
"In the process, the vehicle ran over her and she was rushed to the Akim-Oda Government Hospital but died on arrival," he said.
Superintendent Peprah indicated that the victim's body had been deposited at the same hospital for autopsy whereas four suspects were in Police custody assisting in investigations.
