The National Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and Burns Centre at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital is still treating persons who said they visited the Obengfo Hospital in Weija for cosmetic surgery.
The hospital came under media scrutiny in June 2013 after Joy News’ Seth Kwame Boateng and Manasseh Azuri Awuni investigated the activities of Dr. Dominic Obeng Andoh.
The investigations followed complaints from some patients one of whom claimed she was deformed after paying GH¢12,000 to get the fat out of her belly at the Obengfo Hospital.
Dr. Obeng Andoh insists that he was trained in cosmetic surgery in Florida, USA for two weeks and was awarded a certificate. His patients, according to him, hold him in high esteem for shaping their bodies.
He has been doing this for the past ten years and is located at Weija.
But some persons who had visited the facility for surgery to reduce excess fat or reshape their bodies suffered life-threatening complications.
The Director of the National Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and Burns Centre, Dr Opoku Ware Ampomah tells Joy News, a number of persons who come to Korle-Bu with complications have said they went to Obengfo Hospital for cosmetic surgery.
"They have had liposuction done and it was not done correctly and they have had a post operation complications. One or two of them were quite serious and needed additional surgery,"
"There are one or two that we have not finished sorting out because of their extensive nature," he said.
He noted that some of the problems are in the areas the patients were operated on which are abnormal scarring and healing.
The Medical and Dental Council concluded last year after it completed investigations into the operation of the Hospital that Dr. Andoh is not a certified surgeon and is, therefore, practicing illegally.
"Dr. Obeng has not renewed his registration over the years," Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council, Dr. Eli Atikpui told Joy News.
