One person died on the spot while several others suffered various degrees of injury in an accident at Nsawam, Thursday morning.
According to an eyewitness, the accident occurred when the driver of an Accra-bound Urvan bus veered off his lane and run into another bus which was travelling in the opposite direction.
He told Joy News, the fatal accident included many women with few children and men.
Both drivers, he said, were locked behind their steering wheels.
He said but for the timely intervention of persons onboard a fire service bus which was heading towards Accra from Nsawam, the accident would have recorded more death.
The dead body has been deposited at the Nsawam Government Hospital morgue. The over 20 injured victims are also receiving treatment in that same hospital.
The MMTU Commander of Nsamam, ASP Samuel Ntoso, who confirmed the accident, said the condition of the passengers is very critical.
"We have about 26 people on admission at the Nsawam government hospital including five children and the saddest part of the accident is that, there is a woman with two of her children involved in this accident and the woman herself is in serious condition and her children too. We just left the hospital and the medical team at the hospital are very busy working on them," he said.
