The Member of Parliament for Asokwa constituency in the Ashanti Region, Maxwell Kofi Jumah has urged President Mills to tear up his nomination papers and withdraw from the presidential race of the NDC because he has already failed as a leader.According to Kofi Jumah, the fact that two of the President’s former Vice Chairpersons are contesting him is a clear indication of his failure as the leader of the party.The outspoken NPP MP said it is better for President Mills to step down because he will make mistakes in filling his nomination papers because of the division and acrimony in the party. Speaking on Dwaso Nsem on Wednesday, Mr. Kofi Jumah alleged that because the President remains unpopular he is trying to buy votes from party officials, adding that President Mills’ campaign team paid thousands of NDC supporters who poured onto the streets of Accra for several hours last Thursday when he was picking his nomination forms.He further stated that the state broadcaster Ghana Television was also hijacked for hours at a reported cost of GHC 18,000 (C180 million).Mr. Jumah said thousands of residents of Accra were held up in heavy traffic under the scorching sun for hours and were prevented from going about their normal activities because President Mills was picking his nomination forms, adding that this was not the first time he was doing that so it was strange that this one came with all the euphoria.However, the National Organiser of the NDC, Yaw Boateng Gyan blamed the NPP for doing the same thing in 2007 when they were electing a flagbearer for the party.He said the NPP hijacked the airwaves, both radio and TV the whole day when they were electing their flag bearer.He also criticized the NPP for using state funds to orchestrate their campaign in 2008 and turning around to accuse President Mills of doing the same.He described Communications Director of the NPP, Nana Akomea, as a disgrace to the youth because he does not exhibit the true virtues of a youth leader but rather issues uninformed statement on behalf of the NPP.Yaw Boateng Gyan noted that President Mills is not interested in using state money to fuel his campaign.Story: Samuel Mantey/ Adom News/Ghana
