Kwaku Sakyi Addo, today treated listeners of Joy FM and Multi TV to his final hosting of the current affairs programme “News File.” He quits media work today, the 14th of May 2011 after 27 years of journalism practice (having served Joy FM for 16 years hosting the News File and Frontpage). Kwaku, as he is affectionately called, is closing the media chapter on his career to pursue other interests.He was full of praise for the Multimedia Group, and more especially to its CEO, Kwesi Twum for giving him the opportunity to reach millions of people in Ghana and throughout the world via radio and television. He however hoped to come back to the studios in the days ahead but maybe in a different capacity; ”maybe to pick up a nomination form to drive a Yutong bus,” he joked. Kwaku Sakyi Addo also thanked the producers of the show as well as his listeners and viewers for being so kind and discerning, as he went on to describe them as the "real stars". Panelists on his show described Kwaku Sakyi Addo as a pillar in the media landscape who has been a joy to listen to and hoped that he returns in some "shape or form to continue the good job someday somehow," said Gabby Okyere Darko. Eulogising Kwaku Sakyi Addo, the deputy Minister for Tourism, James Agyenim Boateng said “you have had a very positive influence on many generations and the industry will be poorer without you, there are not too many people of your kind and many Journalism School students are going to look up to you because there is always someone you have to look up to in school.” Kwaku was two times Journalist of the year and has worked and written for various international media houses including the BBC, Reuters, Economist, the Washington post, just to mention a few.
