Telecom Brand of the Year Vodafone Ghana in partnership with WhizzKids Successmaker, a computer-based Maths & English company, has opened an e-Learning Centre at the Vodafone internet cafe at Cantonments.
A statement from Vodafone Ghana said the facility would engage children aged 5 to 14 years to receive Maths and English tuition expected to accomplish a year’s progress in just six months on average following students’ initial assessment.
“The collaboration between Vodafone Ghana and WhizzKids Successmaker will deliver technology-based, high quality primary education that provides the skills and knowledge students need to succeed in a rapidly globalising world,” the statement said.
It said the courses on offer were aligned to the Ghanaian, British and American curricula, a one-of-a-kind initiative in the country that will benefit students immensely, adding that WhizzKids SuccessMaker had selected an award winning educational software as a key teaching tool which was a broad, adaptive curriculum mapped closely to the National Curriculum.
“This allowed the WhizzKids staff to teach the targeted age group in the most effective way possible; the course structure also allows for maximum teacher-student interaction,” it said.
The statement quoted Head of Corporate Affairs at Vodafone Ghana, Carmen Bruce-Annan as saying the initiative was another demonstration of Vodafone’s ultimate aim of empowering Ghanaians to reach their potential.
She said Vodafone sought to provide cutting-edge technology to Ghanaians and Ghanaian children were very much a part of this endeavour.
Carmen Bruce-Annan said the combination of technology and education was a remarkable one and had been shown to enhance the learning abilities of children and youth worldwide.
“We recently launched the Webbox that seeks to fulfil this same initiative and we are proud to continue to push this agenda through the establishment of the e-learning centre,” she said.
The statement also quoted Business Development Manager at WhizzKids Successmaker, Kwame Agyemang as saying "this is a great example of how WhizzKids SuccessMaker integrates technology to provide the best solutions in primary education to our students.”
He noted that in this case, their expertise in digital education and Vodafone’s advanced internet connectivity made them the right choice for this fun e-Learning centre for children.
The development of WhizzKids SuccessMaker was based on feedback from parents and teachers to provide a technology- based, fun learning environment for primary children that inspires them to take on new challenges and a fresh approach to learning.
Advantages of this method include individualised programmes tailored to the needs of each child, greater enthusiasm for learning, increased confidence and academic improvement.
“Programmes at the center take place from Mondays after school to Saturday,” the statement said.
