For the third year running, celebrated music stars in Tema will be relinquishing their lyrical skills for the football pitch for the Tema All Stars Soccer Fiesta scheduled for June 18 at the Tema Sports Stadium.
From its humble beginnings two years ago, the soccer fiesta has been held in Tema Communities 7 and 4 but this year’s, according to organisers, is going to be bigger.
Hiplife artiste, D Cryme, known in real life as Darlington Kwasi Agyekum Gilverson, an organiser and a ‘wanna be’ striker told Myjoyonline.com in an interview Wednesday that, “this year’s event is the first soccer fiesta event to be staged in Tema.”
He noted that past events were in smaller packages but this year’s will see both old and new musicians in Tema joining forces and taking to the pitch for a good cause.
This year’s soccer fiesta is under the theme; Keeping fit, Entertaining and Driving away Cholera with all gate proceeds going to aid charity.
Tema for some time now is holding the mantle as Ghana’s hiplife music home, boasting of musical greats such as Sarkodie, Nana Boroo, D Cryme, R2Bees, Stay Jay, Dadie Opanka, Keche, Macho Rapper and with the induction of new residents, 4x4, Praye, Ayigbe Edem, A-Plus and Nframa into that community, this year’s event promises to be a huge blast.
This year’s Tema All Stars Soccer Fiesta is supported by the Tema General Hospital who, according to organisers, will use the event to educate the youth on cholera.
The various artistes will be divided into four groups who will play each other until a winner emerges.
An exciting twist to this year’s event is the invitation granted to Tema’s fiercest rivals, Accra, to grace the event. This invitation is coming ahead of a planned major friendly football match between the two – Tema and Accra.
There will be a huge musical concert after the match where some of the stars will take turns to treat their fans to good music and exciting performances.
After that concert will be a pool party at the Kesdem Hotel followed by an after party at the Barcadis Nite Club.
The day also happens to be Dadie Opanka’s birthday and on which night he premieres a video.
