Mr. Mohammed Ali, Presiding Member of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA), on Wednesday inaugurated Unit Committees for 8 electoral areas in the Sekondi Sub-Metropolitan District Council at Sekondi.
The electoral areas are; Yensuando, Asemendo, Nkontompo, Adiembra, Kwekuma, Essaman, Zongo and Anafo.
Mr. Ali swore-in the 45 members of the Unit Committees and advised assembly members and the public to deal only with recognized Unit Committees. He urged members of Unit Committees to perform their duties devoid of partisan politics as the district assembly concept is non-partisan.
They should involve all members of the communities in their communal activities irrespective of their political affiliation, he said.
“We are one people when it comes to the development of electoral areas”, Mr. Ali said.
He asked members of the committees to perform their duties well in order to bring governance to the doorstep of the people and ensure that the local government system works.
This would enable them to hold officials of the assemblies accountable, Mr. Ali said.
