Police in Kumasi have arrested the wife of the pastor who was found hanging in their matrimonial home at Denkyemuoso in Kumasi last Monday.
The woman, Mrs Gladys Anim, is being held as a prime suspect after the police sus¬pected foul play in the death of the pastor, Rev Kwame Anim.
Mrs Anim, who is in police custody, was arrested on Thursday following the discovery of bloodstains in the clothes of the deceased and his children.
Police investigations have also revealed that at the time of the alleged suicide, there were fresh broken louvres in the house where the incident occurred.
The Suntreso District Crime Officer, ASP Matthew Nkwantabisa, who briefed the Daily Graphic on the arrest of the 36-year-old suspect, said the police were preparing the needed documents to enable them to remand Mrs Anim in prison custody to facilitate police investigations.
Explaining why Mrs Anim had been arrested, he said an earlier statement taken from her did not confirm the fresh evidence obtained during police investigations.
“When we brought the body from the house, she followed up to give a statement and in the course of our investigations we chanced on fresh evidence which contradict¬ed the statement she gave, hence her arrest,” Mr Nkwantabisa told the Daily Graphic.
“She was detained based on the fact that we found fresh broken louvre blades in the house and some drops of blood on the floor and in the clothes of their children. All these occurred in the night of the incident and so we decided to arrest the wife to assist in our investigations,” he explained.
“For now, she remains a suspect and we are waiting for the autopsy report to enable us to decide on our next line of action,” he added.
Pastor Anim of the Pentecostal Fire Ministry in Kumasi was found hanging in the washroom of his matrimonial apartment at Denkyemuoso.
There were some scratches on his hands and on his neck, with blood oozing from his nostrils when the body was discovered on Monday.
The body was placed in the morgue at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), pending an autopsy report to enhance police investigations.
The pastor lived in the house with his wife and three children, the eldest of whom is 14, with the youngest being eight.
