President John Evans Atta Mills will leave Accra for Malabo, Equatorial Guinea on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 to attend the 17th session of the assembly of African Union Heads of State and Government.
The summit will discuss the challenges associated with empowering the youth and making them forces of development.
The theme for the summit is : “Accelerating Youth Empowerment For Sustainable Development”.
In a statement released by the Head of Communications at the office of the President, Koku Anyidoho, President Atta Mills, is expected to “point to the space he has given to young men and women to have a critical stake in building a Better Ghana” as he shares his “agenda for youth empowerment with his colleagues.”
It is however not clear if the summit will discuss the ongoing NATO operation against the government of Libyan leader Muammar Al-Gaddafi who has been accused of crimes against humanity and of ordering attacks on civilians after an uprising against him began in mid-February by the International Criminal Court. The court has consequently issued a warrant for his arrest.
President Mills is expected back home on Sunday, July 02, 2011.
