The National Youth Authority (NYA) on Monday held its Mid-Year meeting with its implementing partners at Elmina to take stock of its activities within the first half of the year and also to chart the way forward for the next half.
Addressing the meeting Mrs. Sedinam Tamakloe Attionu, Acting National Coordinator of the NYA, said plans were underway to seek funds for the rehabilitation of all the dilapidated regional offices of the Authority to help boost morale of staff and ensure effective and meaningful operations.
The meeting was attended by regional and district coordinators of the Authority, representatives of the National Population Council, Centre for the Development of People, Department of Women, Curious Minds and the Ghana Education Service.
Among the activities carried out in the first quarter by some of the implementing partners include sponsorship for 500 youths by the Department of Women to pursue technical education throughout the
country.
She commended the Regional and District coordinators for striving hard to make the Authority more relevant in the country despite its financial difficulties and urged them to work closely with the vulnerable youth groups especially those in the rural areas to bring them at par with their counterparts in the urban centres.
Mrs. Attionu said the upcoming youth summer camp scheduled for this month ending will have three camps to be concentrated in the rural areas in each of the regions to have direct impact on the targeted youth.
She advised that the various youth groups should register with the authority to facilitate coordination and effective planning between them and the Authority for the active involvement of the youth
in all the regions.
Mr. Prince Derek Adjei, Deputy National Coordinator in charge of Organizations and Programmes, presented six computers and its accessories on behalf of the NYA to the offices of the Central Region Youth Authority for onward distribution to the district offices.
