A 23-year-old foreign student, of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has been remanded in prison custody, by a Kumasi Circuit Court for alleged defilement.
Anthony Bokesa Wenche, a national of Equatorial Guinea, is standing trial for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old Junior High School (JHS) pupil.
He denied the offence and would be brought back on Friday, July 22. Police Inspector Kwabena Oduro-Boateng, told the court, presided over by Justice William Boampong that, the victim lives with her mother at Anhwiam in Kumasi.
On July 3, at about 19:45 hours, the girl was sent by the mother to buy her food and on her way she met Wenche.
The accused engaged her in a conversation and succeeded in luring her into a friend’s room at Anloga, where he defiled her.
The victim’s mother became alarmed after waiting for some time with no sign of the daughter returning and therefore went looking for her, assisted by some people in the neighbourhood.
The prosecution said as luck would have it, they chanced upon Wenche, then seeing off the victim.
When questioned, the girl told them everything about what she went through and the accused was arrested.
A medical report signed by doctors at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), who treated her, confirmed that she had been defiled.
Police Inspector Oduro-Boateng said Wenche confessed to the crime in his caution statement.
