The Executive presbyter of the General Assembly of Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) Church, Mrs. Lydia Adajawa, has cautioned presbyters in leadership positions against condoning and conniving with others to loot church property or destroying them.
Such people should desist from such nefarious acts immediately or have themselves blame when exposed, she warned.
“Those who indulge in such negative activities cannot use the pulpit to enhance human dignity as stewards of the church,” she stated, at the silver jubilee thanksgiving service of the West Volta Presbyters Union in Accra, on Saturday.
It was on the theme: “Enhancing human dignity - Vision of the presbyter as a steward of the church.”
The occasion was used to launch an appeal for funds towards the construction of a secretariat complex in Accra.
Mrs. Adajawa noted that as a result of nefarious acts within the church, human dignity had lost respect; hence, the need to liberate the minds of presbyters and the congregants to live dignified lives.
Mrs. Adajawa asked those involved to repent as their acts were stalling the growth, development and sustainability of the church.
She urged presbyters and congregants to live above reproach and pool their respective resources to help overcome the financial challenges confronting the church.
Mr. Simon Kwasi Tette, national president of the Presbyters Union, asked presbyters and congregants not to renege on the cardinal responsibility of being the custodians of the governance of the church, which they must discharge with humility.
“If we, as presbyters, are upholding the faith and applying it to the life of the church without fear or favour, it is then that we would be said to be doing well,” he stressed.
Mr. Tette asked the congregants to support the leadership of the church to initiate projects to enhance the pastoral care for the sick, the vulnerable, the aged, the needy and the unemployed.
Dumega Raymond Okudzeto, president of the Volta Foundation, disclosed that plans were far advanced for the construction of a harbour at Keta and was hopeful that the completion of the project would attract investment to the region and create jobs and wealth for the citizenry.
He expressed concern about the failure of most people from the Volta Region to invest in the region which, he said was awash with rich natural resources.
