The Kumasi Circuit Court, presided over by Mr Emmanuel Amoo-Yartey, has sentenced two car snatchers to it total of 120 years imprisonment after the convicts pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to rob and robbery. The convicts, William Oppong, alias Kojo Willie, 24; a driver and Victor Owusu, 28; a carpenter, would spend 60 years each in jail. They initially pleaded not guilty to the charges, but later changed their plea to guilty after the elder brother of Kojo Willie testified against him.The police are hunting for two accomplices of the convicts who were identified as Seth and Mahama Nketia.Presenting the facts of the case before the court, a State Attorney, Mr Emmanuel Lawrence Otto Boison, said the complainant was a businessman residing at Dompoase in Kumasi, while Kojo Willie and Victor Owusu resided at Kotei, a Kumasi suburb and Wenchi respectively. He said while the complainant was washing his unregistered Toyota RAV 4 vehicle in front of his house around 5:30.a.m on March 15, 2011, the two and their accomplices appeared from nowhere, pulled out a pistol and ordered the complainant to surrender his car or have his head blown off.He said with the threat of death, they succeeded snatching the vehicle from the complainant and went to park it in Kojo Willie’s brother’s house.He said as soon as the convicts parked the vehicle, they told the brother that they would return to take it later, but while the vehicle was in the house, a local radio station, Hello FM, reported about the missing vehicle.On hearing the announcement, the witness in the case who heard about the description of the vehicle rushed to the Abuakwa police and reported that the vehicle was in his house. He said the witness told the police about how the vehicle was brought to the house and led the police to his house to take the vehicle to the police station.Mr Otoo-Boison said the police started their investigations with the view of arresting the robbers, but it was not until July 27, 2011 that the police in Accra succeeded in arresting them and escorted them to their counterparts in Kumasi to assist in their investigations.
