Two people have been busted by the police at Dawhenya, near Accra, for allegedly possessing fake dollar notes.
They are Luis Datuowei, 40, and Ladgha Fextus, 42, both Nigerians resident at Tema, who were arrested by the Highway Patrol Team on the Accra Highway on Sunday afternoon.
Briefing the Ghanaian Times in Accra on Monday, the National Highways Patrol Unit Commander, Superintendent Obed Dzikunu, said personnel of the unit detailed on the Aflao Highway intercepted the two men in a vehicle with registration number GW 9150 W.
He said a search conducted on the vehicle revealed fake dollar notes in 100 denominations totalling 56,000 dollars congealed in a briefcase.
Also found were unspecified quantities of black papers cut into the size of 100 dollar notes.
In a related development, Isaac Annan, a 30-year-old auto electrician, was arrested by the unit for allegedly stealing vehicle parts belonging to a resident at East Legon in Accra.
Superintendent Dzikunu said Annan was spotted by the patrol team at Tentcity around 3:20.a.m in a taxi cab with registration number GS 2225-10 W, and when searched two pairs of vehicle side mirror, three central control locks, and two car tapes, as well as a screw driver, torchlight, spanner, and pair of scissors were found with him.
He is said to have told the police that he stole the items from a resident at Adjrigannor.
He said further investigations into the two incidents were being conducted after which the suspects will be put before court.
He advised the public to deal only with recognised forex bureau and banks for their money transactions to avoid being cheated by fake currency dealers.
