A 26-year-old unemployed man, who threatened a student with cutlass before stealing a raincoat at Achimota Senior High School in Accra, has been sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment by a Circuit Court.
Sena Tsigbe, who was charged with robbery, pleaded guilty with explanation.
Tsigbe said he decided to take the raincoat because he did not want to be beaten by the rain.
The court convicted him on his plea and sentenced him accordingly.
The prosecutor, Chief Inspector Charles Chester, told the court that the complainant is a Form One boarding student of Achimota Senior High School while Tsigbe resides at Christian Village in Accra.
Chief Inspector Chester said on July 11, this year, at about 0700 hours, the complainant and her class mate were cleaning their classrooms when Tsigbe forcibly entered the classroom with a cutlass and an old student school bag.
Tsigbe removed the raincoat hanging on one of the chairs and when the complainant tried to prevent him from removing it he got offended and pulled a cutlass from his trousers and threatened to slash her.
He took the raincoat and fled but the complainant raised the alarm and the school’s security men chased him and apprehended him.
They retrieved the stolen rain coat valued at GH¢50.
