The Managing Editor of the Al-Hajj newspaper, Alhaji Idrissu Bature says Ghanaians respect Prof Kwabena Frimpong Boateng more than President Atta Mills.According to Alhaji Bature, what Prof Frimpong Boateng has given to Ghana is bigger than what any president has given to this country, adding, regardless of people’s political, religious and tribal affiliations, Ghanaians revere Prof Frimpong Boateng more than the President of the Republic of Ghana. He maintained that the sacrifices Prof. Frimpong Boateng has made for the country necessitated his honourary title at the National Cardiothoracic Center (NCC).Alhaji Bature was speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem on Thursday.Prof Kwabena Frimpong Boateng’s appointment was terminated last week by the Health Minister, Joseph Yieleh Chireh. The dismissal of the first black heart surgeon has raised a lot of issues with his colleague surgeons and nurses at the NCC laying down their tools to show their solidarity with their dismissed Director.Alhaji Bature stressed that "saving a man’s life is no mean a joke at all and look at the amount of sacrifices this man has sacrificed for the country."He however said Prof. Frimpong Boateng's involvement in partisan is mistake, because has dented his image with his political opponents saying all sorts of things against him.The Hajj newspaper Managing Editor said it was regrettable that a man who has selflessly served the country diligently to be so humiliated through terse letter dismissing him with immediate effect.Meanwhile, the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie has said the removal of Prof. Boateng from office was ample testimony to the NDC's agenda to victimize their political opponents.
Mr Owusu Afriyie popularly called Sir John, argued that President Atta Mills before embarking on his trip to South Africa, was aware of plans to sack Prof Kwabena Frimpong Boateng. He noted that it was therefore hypocritical on the part of President Atta Mills to give Prof Frimpong Boateng one month to prepare his handing over notes.Sir John said what president Mills should have done was to tell Prof Frimpong Boateng that he can no longer work with him, because he (Frimpong Boateng) is a member of the opposition NPP rather than saying it was due to the fact that Prof Frimpong Boateng had gone beyond the compulsory retirement of 60.He added it was immature for President Mills to sack Prof Frimpong Boateng based on retirement age.
