The new Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) president, Bice Osei Kuffour has catalogued a long list of promises including free healthcare, free legal advice and legal counsel for musicians in his bid to better the lot of musicians.
The MUSGIA president made this revelation in his first media briefing at the MUSIGA Head office Wednesday, since assuming the top job as president, to outline his programmes and projects.
In his address, the president, also known as Obour said, “We within our year of office, will provide every single member of MUSIGA with free healthcare. Works are far advance, we are working towards it and it should soon happen.”
He said it was his belief that MUSIGA’s growth hinges on the good health of its members.
His administration, he said, will also ensure that, “every single member of MUSIGA gets free legal advice and in some instances legal representation on music related issues. We will provide a pension package for all musicians.”
While promising a total re-branding of the musicians’ body to make it attractive and lucrative to all musicians as a core of its four-year developmental agenda, Obour assured that his administration will be an all inclusive one.
“By the end of our 4-year-term, we would have structured a professional administrative structure for the music industry, for MUSIGA. An administrative structure that is evident of success,” unlike past administrations which lacked an all-inclusive agenda.
Flanked some MUSIGA executives and directors which included Rex Omar, Obrafour, Nana Tuffour, Ahuma Bosco Ocansey, Ben Brako, Bessa Simons, Tic Tac, Rocky Dawuni, Ayigbe Edem and A B Crentsil, Obour unveiled plans to set up a MUSIGA band across the ten regions of Ghana and also to ensure that MUSIGA partners major event organisers and events in the country.
In a drive to increase the current membership of MUSIGA which stands at 3,700, of which 800 are active members, the new administration revealed that they will embark on a massive re-registration exercise starting October 12 at the National Theatre, through to December 31 2011.
Other events lined up for MUSIGA includes, a walk on World Tolerance Day on November 6 which will see musicians, civil society groups and the general public embark a walk to help fight the politics of insults in the country.
There will also be a MUSIGA Gala Night at the Banquet Hall, State House on November 25 for the musicians’ body to meet up with the Government, Corporate Ghana, NGOs and other bodies for support for the music industry.
Obour used the briefing to formally introduce and swear-in new directors and committee members who will help run his administration.
