The Chief HR Business Partner of Multimedia Group Limited, Jane Ohenewa Gyekye has made a passionate appeal to parents to apply a holistic approach in the education of their children so as to unearth their full potential.
While this may come at a cost - including letting go of certain comforts - Jane believes that it is the surest way of getting the best out of them so they can become great contributors to their families and the nation as a whole.
According to her, “Taking responsibility to ensure your child is educated all round in knowledge, character and (the child) fulfils his or her destiny will certainly involve you having to let go of many comforts.”
“It requires hours spent one-on-one with the child to learn how to read, to do homework thoroughly, to do household chores, to help out when there is communal labour within the neighborhood. It also calls for enduring the discomfort of disciplining your child so that he or she can grow to become a great contributor to family and nation,” she emphasised.
Mrs Jane Ohenewa Gyekye made this call while addressing the 4th graduation ceremony of pupils of Careguide Montessori School, Gbawe in Accra, Saturday, as guest speaker. The theme for the occasion was Trading our comfort for the holistic education of our children.
She charged school children to also read, learn their languages, mathematics and also sharpen their science skills since the future belongs to them.
To the parents again, she urged them “to equip our children with the ability to read for themselves so that wherever they find themselves on this globe, they can read their way out of trouble and find solutions. Knowledge is power and knowledge is easier to come by if you can read for yourself, for many of the treasures of the world are hidden in books.” She particularly lauded Joy 99.7 FM’s Read 100 Project as a positive step in that direction.
Saturday’s graduation was attended by parents, friends and well wishers as well as pupils of the school.
