The Greater Accra Regional Director in Charge of Postings at the Ghana Health Service, Professor Irene Agyapong has disclosed that four medical doctors have volunteered posting to the Tema General Hospital. According to Professor Irene Agyapong, the health service has filed their letters to the Human Resource Department of the service for the necessary arrangements to be made. Professor Agyapong could not tell the exact time they would start work, but said the management plans reopening the Maternity Ward of the hospital as soon as possible. She stressed that the Ghana Health Service is still on the lookout for three doctors who refused posting to the Tema General Hospital to beef up personnel at the hospital. This became necessary after several pregnant women who were due for delivery were allegedly turned away by authorities of the Tema General Hospital following shortage of doctors. Mrs Elizabeth Dogbey, the Administrator of the Hospital said the Maternity Department of the Tema General Hospital had five doctors made up of two specialists, two obstetric doctors, and a gynecologist. Two other doctors are on leave without pay, two had travelled to further their studies while one is receiving treatment. According to the Administrator, some of the doctors had left the Hospital without any reason, and attributed this to poor salary and a huge workload.
