The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) is to review its health and sanitation bye-laws to give adequate protection to the environment.
Mr Paul Abaa Akanaba, the Metropolitan Environmental Health Officer told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Thursday that the existing laws had loopholes and did not go far enough.
He said apart from the fact that some of the bye-laws were not explicit no provisions were made for example, to deal with smoke nuisance.
Mr Akanaba said it was also important to make sure that buildings were properly spaced and had good ventilation.
He spoke of plans to relocate all cattle ranches in the Metropolis to Apagya near Kodie in the Afigya-Kwabre District.
This is to help to check the situation where cattle are left to roam the streets, and compete with vehicles for space on the roads, resulting in traffic jams, especially during rush hours.
Added to this is the unhealthy sight of tones of dung they leave behind on the streets.
Mr Akanaba said the Assembly would need about GH¢350,000.00 to implement the relocation plan.
