IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja will keep the giant Independence Match Play trophy between Nigeria and Ghana till March next year, after beating an under strength Achimota Golf and Country Club of Accra in a friendly match held on Nigeria's Independence Day.
The Ghanaians, captained by Rene Gameli-Kwame, only came to Abuja with 16 players as against the 50-man contingent expected for the two-day event.
Nigeria won after amassing the most scores in the double and single matches.
Ghana and Nigeria exchange visits by sending golfers each time either of them is celebrating its Independence anniversary.
Nigeria will be visiting Achimota on March 6, 2012, when Ghana's 54th anniversary comes up.
The Independence golf tournament which also featured the September birthday kitty was sponsored by several partners including, Total, PW, Julius Berger, KLM, Nigeria Breweries, Ethiopia Airlines, NNPC, Dino Golf, Nigeria Tourism Development Corporation and GDN.
