The Ejisu-Juaben District Assembly has allocated over GH¢350,000 (3.5 billion cedis) from its share of the 2007 District Assemblies Common Fund to support the development and promotion of education in the district.
Mr. Yaw Ahenkora Afrifa, Ejisu-Juaben District Chief Executive, who announced this, said education, was the backbone of developed nations and there was the need to commit more resources towards education to achieve the desired middle-income status for the country in 2015.
Mr Afrifa was addressing the closing session of a two-week computer-training course organized by Boston College in the United States of America (USA) for some selected teachers and pupils in the district at Ejisu.
Professor Akwasi Sarkodie-Mensah, a native of Ejisu, and a lecturer at the college, initiated the course.
Authorities of the college in addition, donated 118 computers to Ejisu Model School to promote the teaching and learning of computer.
Mr Afrifa expressed appreciation to Professor Sarkodie-Mensah and authorities of the college for the support and urged the beneficiaries to make maximum use of the knowledge acquired.
The participants appealed to government to supply computers to basic schools in the country to promote Information Communication Technology (ICT) education.
They also appealed to the assembly to sustain the training programme to enable more teachers and pupils in the district acquire knowledge and skills in computer.
