Samuel Abu Jinapor, Aide to NPP flagbearer Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has urged President John Mills to retrieve GHS58 million he says has been doled out to an NDC guru as compensation for losses he claims to have suffered due to the abrogation of a contract by the erstwhile Kufuor-administration.
He said retrieving the money was an opportunity for the President to compensate Ghanaians for not doing enough to improve their livelihoods.
Mr Woyome - a financier of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) - in an arrangement with the Attorney General's office, was given GHS58 million after losing a bid to build a number of stadia prior to the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations.
Reports indicate the A-G, who failed to appear in court to defend the State on the issue, paid the amount disregarding a court order to pay only GHS17 million.
During a discussion on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo Monday, Mr Jinapor described the incident as “daylight robbery of the Ghanaian people.”
He called on President Mills to get to the bottom of the matter, adding that “The Ghanaian people feel disgusted by this. President Mills… do something before you die.”
Former Youth Organiser of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), James Kwabena Bomfeh, wondered why President Mills asked for a report on the matter, asking whether he was unaware of the case.
“If he [Mills] is not [aware] then it's sad news. If the President is not aware then the country is not secured...”
Mr Bomfeh, also known as Kabila, scolded parliamentarians for not exercising due diligence before approving the 2012 budget which contained information on the issue.
Meanwhile the Member of Parliament for Adenta, Kojo Adu Asare, has called for sober minds in discussing the matter, charging the judiciary and police service to use the case as an opportunity to exonerate themselves.
He stressed the need for further investigations, saying: “I have nothing against any player in this matter but I have something against how this whole thing got to be in place. How it happened, I have something strong against it.”
