Former Sports Minister Hon. Rashid Pelpuo believes Ghana stands a greater chance of winning the African cup of nations next year.
The black stars have been tipped as favourites to win the cup of nations considering the absence of some big names like Nigeria, Cameroon and defending champions Egypt.
The Ghana team progression in the last two competitions, Bronze medal at Ghana 2008 and Silver medal at Angola 2010, Rashid Pelpuo explains anything short of the title this time round in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea would be considered a failure.
Hon Rashid Pelpuo who is also Member of Parliament for WA Central and deputy majority leader in parliament is one of many who believe the Black Stars must end the country’s 30 year wait for a Nations Cup title.
“I have confidence in the crop of young players selected by the coach; they will do as a lot of good as they are capable of winning the African cup”. He told Joy Sports
In a related development, Ghana legend Sammy Kufuor has warned that pressure could be mounting on the Black Stars because of the expectations of many Ghanaians hoping the team will win the Cup of Nations title next year.
