A 40-year-old farmer, who defiled a primary school girl, raped a woman and attempted raping a second woman, all in a spate of two hours, has been remanded in prison custody at Nkawie in the Ashanti Region.
Benjamin Kwabena Appau allegedly committed the acts at Mpasatia and its environs in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.
He was alleged to have taken advantage of the absence of the parents of a 14-year-old class six pupil of the Anyinamso Primary School and defiled her in the cottage of her parents at Kwadjor.
While running away from the crime scene, he bumped into a 31-year-old mother of three who asked him for directions to a nearby galamsey site but instead of the directions, he rather forced her down on the bush path, tore her brassiere under pants and raped her.
He took the woman's mobile phone and money before running away only to see another woman a few metres away and attempted to rape her as well.
Luck, however, eluded Appau this time when the victim raised an alarm that attracted some young men who came to her rescue and managed to arrest him.
Not long after, the rape victim who was sobbing and limping towards town bumped into them and narrated her ordeal so they led him to the Nkawie District Police Station.
According to the District Police Commander, Mr Charles Kofi Adu, who briefed The Finder, Thursday, Appau carried out the alleged rape between 12 noon and 2:00p.m. on December 2, this year.
He said he had already been remanded into prison custody by the Nkawie Circuit Court presided over by Mr Owusu Attiyie and he is expected to make his second appearance before the court today.
He said a duplicate docket on the case was to be sent to the Attorney-General for advice.
He narrated that Appau’s mother had employed the parents of the first victim to work on her cocoa farm at Kwadjor.
On the fateful day, Appau visited the cottage of the victim and asked to be allowed to prepare some food, he said.
Parents of the victim therefore left the victim to assist him while they left for the farm.
However, realising that the parents were gone, Appau dragged the victim into the cottage and defiled her.
While escaping, Appau bumped into the second victim who had just arrived at Mpasatia from Mampong Effiduase to see a friend who was said to have gone to the galamsey site, he said.
He said the victim had lost her way when she saw Appau and, therefore, pleaded with him to help her only for him to rather rape her.
