Dr. Kingsley Bosompem, Medical Officer, Saint Theresa’s Catholic Hospital, Nkoranza, has urged religious leaders to address immoral challenges of society such as rape, premarital sex, teenage pregnancy and unsafe abortion to help stall their ascendancy. He stressed the need for political leaders to consider the plight of the Youth and come out with necessary strategies that would help in controlling moral decadence among them. Dr. Bosompem, also Pastor in-charge of the Living Power International Ministries Church at Techiman, was addressing the congregation at a carols night programme organised by the Management of the Nkoranza District Health Insurance Scheme at Nkoranza at the weekend. He expressed concern about the number of unsafe abortion cases reported at the Hospital within 2011 and said five maternal deaths have been recorded as a result of the practice. Dr. Bosompem said it was just unfortunate that younger girls risked their lives through abortion, stressing that there was a particular event when one person had caused three abortions within a year without considering its consequences. He called on Ghanaians to allow the teachings of Jesus Christ take control of their lives so to eschew all forms of evil and contribute effectively towards the development of the country. The Medical Officer also expressed regret about how greed, selfishness, hatred, enmity and corruption have found their way into the Ghanaian society and said it was time such negative attitudes were eschewed to ensure peace and understanding in the country. “People who fear God would not steal and embezzle state money at the expense and sufferings of the entire people”, he noted, adding, people in various positions should not place their selfish interests and welfare needs above the development of Ghana”. Dr. Bosompem congratulated the founders of the Nkoranza Mutual Health Insurance Scheme for their foresight in setting the pace for such a laudable scheme which has gained both national and international recognition. Mr. James Adu-Bonah, Acting Manager of the Scheme, said the Carols Night programme aimed at praying and thanking God for His loving care and attention to its workers throughout the year. Mr. Adu-Bonah said they would not have achieved successes and overcome their challenges if God had not guided and protected them, and quoted the Book of Psalms Chapter 127, “except the lord watches over the city, the watchmen watch, but in vain”, to confirm his point. Choristers from the Nkoranza Victory Presbyterian Church and the Nkoranza Central Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Church sung carols on the blissful night.
