President John Agyekum Kufuor has conveyed Ghana’s appreciation to China for its support for the Bui Hydro-electric Dam Project.
The Chinese Government is providing a concessionary loan support of 270 million dollars towards the project.
Speaking during a courtesy call on him at the Castle, Osu, by a delegation of the Contractors, Sino-hydro Corporation, President Kufuor said the project offered an opportunity for technology transfer and job openings for the people.
Mr. Fan Jixiang, Group President of the Chinese Company led the delegation.
President Kufuor is scheduled to perform the ceremony to officially mark the commencement of work on the hydro-dam of historic importance, on Friday.
He asked Sino-hydro to ensure that they did not only deliver quality job but work with speed to complete the job on time.
Chinese Contractors are into road construction, building of stadiums and backbone connectivity of ICT among others in the country and in all these they have been enjoying solid background of support and this President Kufuor said would be extended to Sino-hydro.
He welcomed the interest expressed by the Contractors to also build smaller dams and undertake other projects in the country.
Mr. Fan said they were committed to deliver a successful project through quality work.
Additionally, they would ensure that they become good corporate citizens and operate within the laws of the country.
Ghana he said was on the fast track to development and presented a lot of opportunities.
