Twenty-seven people are dead and several others have been injured after a water tanker ran into a crowd of revelers at Senya Beraku in the Central Region Tuesday night.
Eyewitnesses say the brakes of the tanker may have failed.
Joy FM’s Central regional correspondent Richard Kojo Nyarko who visited the accident scene says 30 people have been admitted to the Winneba Government Hospital while the driver of the tanker has been arrested by the police.
Among those on admission, he said, are victims needing amputation.
The District Chief Executive for the area, Adams Nuhu, has told Joy News he has scheduled a meeting with opinion leaders and families of the victims at 10am. He is proposing a mass burial for the dead because of the mangled nature of the bodies. Among the dead is a pregnant woman.
